It was cold but all the New Yorker’s made their way to Lincoln Center for nothing but centered masterpieces from designers of different dynamics. Fashion week featured some of the week’s biggest shows Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and the fashion crowd managed to save some of their best looks for last. Smart layers, furry and metallic coats, stripes and polka dots, chunky leather jackets, and dashes of bright yellow and baby blue made for a strong finish to the week.
My top 5 New York Fashion Week Collections:
Kanye West’s dreams finally came to life, his very first fashion show at New York Fashion Week.Skylight Clarkson SQ was the place to be this afternoon as the artist turnt fashion designer debuted YEEZY SEASON 1, his Autumn/Winter 2015 footwear and collection of oversized, neutral-colored sweaters, jackets, and what looks like full body Spanx.
And the show wouldn’t have been a success without the A-listers,The Kardashian clan, Jay Z and Beyonce, Rihanna, Diddy and Cassie, Anna Wintour, Alexander Wang, Justin Bieber, Big Sean were some of the stars that came out to support Kanye’s vision.I’m very much sure its hobo inspired but I would definitely rock it. Of course wife Kim was there with North dressed up in Yeezy collection.During the show, Kanye also debuted a new song called, “Wolves” featuring singer Sia and rapper Vic Mensa.
“POWER and Poetry” is the theme for Donna Karan‘s autumn/winter 2015 show. Donna’s aim was to “transform a woman from day into night, with strength and seduction”Donna always knows how to transform&reinvent that’s her strength. She has built her brand on dressing the power professional.
Her ideas of power and poetry came together in single pieces. It was noted in the strict lines of a tightly belted tailored jacket, with contrasting billowing lantern sleeves, and elsewhere in a corporate grey midi skirt that gave way to romance via sheer peek-a-boo inserts, revealing a flash of leg with every stride, creating a dance between masculine and feminine. Elevating workwear essentials was the order of the day – right down to a navy city coat richly embroidered in jet bugle beads and coiled ribbon appliqué.
From metallic brocade padded coats to tuxedo jackets and a series of origami gowns crafted from panels of organza and net, neatly cinched at the waist, there were lots of hits, even, right down to the simpler pieces: consider a taffeta turtleneck just the ticket to seal the deal in the boardroom and dazzle after office hours.
She’s the queen of sleek& we all know that. Victoria Beckham ventured in a new take on her collection this season. With a subtle military theme two large black buttons on coats and dresses she delivered a gathering of garments with a barely-there feel.
There were swishier dresses that fell with gravity, rather than hanging on tenter hooks, the slinkier numbers, monochrome striped and full of flare. To give the looks her signature VB sturdiness, every model wore calf-length boots, either in black or tan – the kind of footwear you can imagine the designer herself sporting.
In the last few looks VB pulled out some reflective silk and chenille, motifs that felt feminine to juxtapose the majority of her strong, unwavering items, and the models’ hair pulled back tight.
Our very own South African King of Style David Tlale showcased his 6th Solo Season in a row at the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York. His show was divided into 3 themes – one with a lot of leather, sheer fabrics, feathers and gold embellishments; the second with a motif and the third a neutral tone theme.
That’s King Tlale for you bringing out CLASS in every form&aspect.David keeps making us proud of his work&proud of the showcase for millions of fashion lover to indulge in his masterpieces. His show was not a disappointment, the fabrics, cuts, designs&colour scheme were gorgeous.
Carefully selected&the outcome was executed through his vision. We all know when you see David Tlale its all about elegance, poise, sophistication, class&glam&all those elements reflected on his show. Tlale’s collection aims to give women back their power and equip them with a strong and confident sense of allure, without losing their essence and femininity. Led by Tyson Beckford, Tlale’s army of models transitioned into looks of soft, whimsical coral-pink balancing the strength& femininity of the collection.
Dennis Basso had an incredible runway show for his Fall 2015 collection.Dennis utilized some serious 70’s flare as he drew inspiration from a time of excess glamour and discotheques creating unforgettable statement making ensembles with a bit of a vampy edge&implemented perfectly.
Dennis ready-to-wear was admired this season especially as everything from the fabrics to construction screamed Studio 54 opulence. There were many 70’s staples present like slinky high-slit draped panne velvet dresses, chiffon jumpsuits, high waisted palazzo pants, bias cut halter slip sheaths in metallic lame’s and fabulous brocades manipulated for evening-wear like only Dennis could design.
The palette remained predominantly within the metallics family, favoring gold and champagne which extended from the embellishments into the outerwear. And while there were definitely some favorite moments, like a plum colored fringe column gown, it wouldn’t be a Dennis Basso show without being bowled over by covetable fur pieces for all of us to drool over. There were chinchilla shrugs, an alligator “hoody”, oversized coats featuring intermingling fox and lynx, and even a poncho was given a swift kick of splendor with the help of fringed sable and broadtail.
